Ashley and Pete's love story began in the fall months of the year 2000.....They were seniors at John Handley High School in their hometown of Winchester, VA. They began dating then and continued throughout their first one and a half years in college only to break off the relationship for good, or so they both thought. They reconnected in the summer of 2004 but did not officially start dating until the following fall of their senior year in college in 2005. They stayed strong through Pete playing basketball and traveling the world while playing with the Globetrotters, and Ashley hitting the books hard in the Physician Assistant's program at Shenandoah University.
While on a trip to Arizona to visit Pete's brother Jay, his wife Jill, and their then two-month old son Jack, Pete and Jay visited a local jeweler to pick out his future wife's engagement ring. The plan by Pete and Jay in AZ was brilliant and the new family secret was kept from Ashley for two months until August 23rd, 2008 when the question was popped. Pete's other brother Rob, his wife Jen, and their then eight-month old daughter Ella, assisted Pete on another brilliantly executed plan as the scene was set, the wine bottle was uncorked, and Pete was on one knee asking, "Will You Marry Me?" with Ashley emphatically saying "YES!"
