On the morning of December 26, 2013, Boyd got up early and told Larisa he was going to town to work. Larisa found this odd, as this was the first she was hearing of it. She thought nothing of it, or when Boyd insisted that they take their new puppy, Bandit for a walk. She reluctantly agreed, being that the night before had been a late one with some cocktails. The day was very nice, and they walked to the park with a pond nearby to their new home in Warman, SK. Boyd paused by a bench. Larisa thought he was stopped to let the dog do his business, and asked what he was doing. Boyd then said "Come here, I have something to ask you". Larisa knew immediately what it was, and in true Barber fashion, burst into tears, and of course said YES!.
